Part of our programme at camps is to focus on raising awareness of many environmental issues that our planet is now facing. On top of this we want to offer solutions to help young people see that there is simple things they can do on a day to day basis which will make a difference.
We love the beach, the sea and the stunning coastline of Devon. Keeping it clear from plastic and other debris and rubbish is vital to helping the area maintain its natural beauty as well as protecting the marine life and animals. This is why we have teamed up with SAS, have our own group beach cleaning kit and have pledged to keep the stretch of coastline form Bovisands to Bantham clean.
It’s only apparent how much plastic cannot be recycled when you start to collect it for a purpose. Towards the end of last year we discovered Eco Bricking which involves filling plastic bottles with non recyclable plastic to create bricks of plastic waste.
Having started to fill some bottles over Half Term in October and seeing the positive way the children responded to creating these bricks, we have now gone one step further and set ourselves up as an EcoBrick exchange. As well as creating bricks of our own at camp, we will also be collecting other peoples bricks and once we have enough we will start to use the bricks for some exciting building products with our campers.
